Jesus is a nice bloke …

… but he’s got some weird friends.

A lot of research points to the fact that while many people think that Jesus has a lot going for him, they’re not so keen on the church or any form of organised religion.

Erwin McManus once said,

“The greatest enemy to the movement of Jesus Christ is Christianity”.

He is very much a follower of Jesus Christ but he hates religion.

Erwin has been described as everything from a husband and father, to a writer, futurist, activist, artist and spiritual and cultural leader. He’s also the lead pastor of Mosaic in Los Angeles.

Mosaic is a community committed to live by faith, to be known by love, and to be a voice of hope. Erwin’s books include An Unstoppable Force, Chasing Daylight, The Barbarian Way and Soul Cravings.

This afternoon I recorded an interview with Erwin to be broadcast 98.5 Sonshine FM tomorrow morning after 11:00 a.m.

Erwin believes that a lot of us settle for average lives because it’s easier than striving for the original life we’re really called to live.

He’s a fascinating guy to talk to and I only wish we had more time to chat.

You can listen to our interview by clicking the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

Erwin is in Perth for the Big Weekend at Riverview Church.

There is now a Mosaic Perth led by James Bryant meeting in South Perth.

  • For some reason I wasn’t able to download the mp3.

So based on the blog only, I’d like to say that Jesus didn’t seem to like organized religion much in his day either.

However, the chuch, the body of believers, we must be careful when we say we are not “keen” on it.
After all, God instituted it, and Jesus said these words, “I will build by church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it;” and, “Go, therefore, teach all nations . . . .and lo! I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.”

These are very strong words, and shows that if we decide not to be keen on what God seems very keen on, let us use care.
